GOES-U SpaceX Falcon Heavy launch and booster landing - unique high definition 4K60 stabilized views
[ video & text : NASA ]
NASA provided live coverage the launch of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) GOES-U (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite U) mission. GOES-U, the final addition to GOES-R series, will help us prepare for two kinds of weather - Earth and space weather. GOES satellites serve a critical role in providing continuous coverage of the Western Hemisphere, including monitoring tropical systems in the eastern Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. This continuous monitoring aids scientists and forecasters in issuing timely warnings and forecasts, to help protect the one billion people who live and work in the Americas.

    I have never wiggled the stick in a spin. Opposite rudder to the direction of the spin always stopped any spin I was in (on purpose). I guess if that does not work you can wiggle anything you want. The pilot looked a bit worried and they should have been.

    I've come to the realization that when they say we lost the ability to go to the moon its not because we dont have the means too,we've lost the imagination and brain power to do it. Think about it ,we went to the moon and back with simple know how. It was a well trained pilot that landed on the moon in pretty much a tinfoil bubble. It's the know how we dont have anymore!!!

      The individual knowledge of everyone involved and the “organisational know-how” of how to actually run such a huge, complex project has been lost after such a long time. Much of the equipment is archaic, and many things cannot be bought “off the shelf” and have to be specially manufactured. Re-designing from scratch is cheaper and better. However, it takes years to build up that sort of expertise and NASA is going through the same problems it had in the early to mid-60’s. Rocket technology has not progressed much at all and although modern computers are far more sophisticated, they are far more vulnerable to particle radiation than those that used low density integrated circuits and magnetic core memory, both of which are extremely radiation hard. There is also no cold war imperative, not as much funding and no time limit placed on it by a president. The terrain will be rougher this time with longer shadows and a heavier lander. We also live in much more risk averse times. All these issues are what has caused it to take so long this time around.

    when science tries to use Iridium as the proof of comet hitting the planet, oops, they forgot to mention that the Earth itself produces the Iridium from the core and is also natural in earth crust in small amounts,. It is also encases those water diamonds aka ringwoodite underneath the crust that we know is real. so that means if water was pressurized it would spread iridium all over the planet naturally. "Iridium is one of the densest and rarest of Earth's natural elements. It is so dense that it mainly exists in the Earth's core, rather than crust," said Amanda Simson, an assistant professor of chemical engineering at the University of New Haven. But some iridium exists in the crust.Dec 1, 2016

The shuttle programme evolved from the appollo programme and was intended to put large payloads into orbit for a multitude of purposes. It was the 1st of its kind intended for re-useable space vehicles and parts. I don't know what the original coment actually meant by "inefficient way to launch a satellite" do they mean fuel wise, spares wise? I think Western civilization, and with it the space program, is about to collapse and we are about to enter a new dark ages" wherein technology cannot be sustained due to collapsing human population levels, collapse of Western civilization as mass migration destroys Western societies, and with them the technology that depends upon them. Bye, bye space travel.

    How about a coaxial main rotor so VNE could be greatly increased?

    • @MechDesignTV
      @MechDesignTV 24 дні тому

      This is simpler than a coaxial rotor and it can afford retreating blade stall because of the lift provided by the box wing and the thrust provided by the forward facing propellers. It's a different solution, it has pros and cons compared to a coaxial helicopter or a coaxial+ tail facing rotor like Sikorsky Raider X
